Lips a venomous scarlet slash, hair in Gorgonic braids, eyes popping ad lib, Bette Davis is a criminal arch-fiend plotting to hijack a Polaris sub ('Just one'). Lots of exotic sets and outlandish secret weapons, just a pity it's all rather old hat Bond stuff. Still, with Denholm Elliott giving sterling support as her sycophantic aide, Davis has a ball with some genuinely monstrous lines. 'Poor quality photography,' she rasps apologetically while showing Robert Wagner some footage of his fiancée being tortured to death, 'but we can't always choose the best camera positions.'
