Hankies at the ready for this tearjerking British drama about a man who loses his wife to cancer
Tissues are a must if you’re going to see this British weepy based on the bestselling book by St John Greene. Before his wife Kate’s death from breast cancer aged 37 she wrote a list of things Greene should do with their sons, alongside practical advice and poignant memories. Her notes included instructions like: ‘Kiss the boys two times before bed, ‘Don’t let them smoke’ and ‘Teach them to respect women’.
The list itself features less in this drama than the title suggests. Instead, the narrative jolts between three time-frames: scenes of Kate (Emilia Fox) and Singe (Rafe Spall) living happily on the West Country coast before her diagnosis, Kate’s illness and the aftermath of her death. The result is a little unsettling.
