Ocean’s 8

The Ocean‘s formula gets a fresh spin in a heist caper with style.

A cooler-than-thou band of criminals, a smoothly executed grand heist, flawless costumes. Expanding on the handsome attributes of the Ocean’s franchise with a radiant cast and sufficient NYC groove, ‘Hunger Games’ director Gary Ross’s ‘Ocean’s 8’ gives glossy multiplex entertainment a good name. Fully loaded with Anne Hathaway’s (often underutilised) comedic chops – her cunning movie-star character is the film’s secret weapon – and various high-profile cameos (Heidi Klum, Anna Wintour, Kim Kardashian, you name it), it packs in ample carats of glitz beyond its diamonds and sequinned designer gowns.

Sandra Bullock plays Debbie Ocean, an ex-con proudly filling the shoes of her brother Danny (George Clooney, here only in spirit). She masterminds a complex scheme to steal a majestic Cartier necklace at New York’s elite fundraiser the Met Gala. Among her recruits are former associate Lou (an impeccably-suited Cate Blanchett) and the eccentric fashion designer Rose Weil (Helena Bonham Carter), who’s yearning to resurrect her waning career by dressing the impishly seductive Daphne Kluger (Hathaway) for the exclusive event. Also in the squad are Mindy Kaling’s jewellery connoisseur, Sarah Paulson’s Vogue insider, Awkwafina’s sly con and the ultra-charismatic hacker Nine Ball (Rihanna, like you’ve never seen before.)

‘Ocean’s 8’ sticks to the formula, though Ross never quite matches the breezy vigour of the Soderbergh-directed trilogy, but the jokes land and there’s a satisfying twist to bring down the curtain. And, hey, resisting its mischievous spirit is simply impossible. How often is a group of skilled women allowed to be bad? So follow this first-rate ensemble’s lead, slip into something fabulous and join the fun.

I found this film entertaining and fun. Loved the cast. loved the characters. This was so much better than the femalefied 'Ghostbusters.' It did want to be more clever than it was but loads of films do this like the Now You See Me movies. The usual idea that Ocean was able to second guess everything was a bit far fetched. However it was a fun movie. Bonham Carter's character was so amusing and ditzy. Makes me want to check out the previous movies. Great for light entertainment, not so great if you want a really clever plot with no holes.

Who on earth is giving this 4 stars? I don't understand this... it's just a PC cash grab; it's an Ocean's film with an all female cast for the sake of an Ocean's film with an all female cast and sorry but that is not good enough reason to make a film... the last 2 all male sequels were stretches; this is a long stretch too far.

It's everything you expect from an ocean's movie, smart story, interesting characters and clever twists.

However it is everything you expect with the movie being very predictable.

I really enjoyed and would rewatch however nothing truly special, just another summer blockbuster.

But the women were incredible, plus very little changed because they were women which was refreshing

With a cast like this, you would expect to be thoroughly entertained and I was. The heist to steal a multi-million pound Cartier necklace is meticulously executed. Well, having taken over five years to plan, it should be! There is momentum and merriment; there is glitz and glamour. But most importantly, it's a clever little story. Escape for a while and watch the eight in action.

Going with high expectations that the girl version is going to be as good as the boy version was a mistake.

The story line was clever but the execution poor!

For a big Hollywood movie, James Cordon all

Of a sudden appears and stares talking about Arsenal, very disappointing.
