You either love or loathe Will Hay, though this is by far his finest moment and might well convert unbelievers. As the garrulous, officious and totally incompetent station master of the isolated and sleepy Irish village of Buggleskelly, he tries desperately to modernise facilities and meanwhile gets involved with gun-runners. Some of the humour is rather dated now, but the atmospheric creation of a quaintly antiquated rural Britain - that never in reality existed - holds plenty of charm. (From an original story by Frank Launder.
