The directorial debut from controversy-baiting electro-pop beast Peaches is titled, with customary tastefulness, ‘Peaches Does Herself’. It’s an oddball rock-operatic self-portrait fictionalising the singer’s rise to stardom, and her relationship with what the press release describes as ‘a beautiful she-male’ (we’d expect nothing less, frankly). Peaches’s debt to the heyday of early ’80s pop is well known, so it’s no surprise she’s taken a leaf out of Prince’s book for her first feature film. Whether ‘Peaches Does Herself’ can possibly scale the lurid, ludicrous heights of ‘Purple Rain’ remains to be seen, but we’re keen to find out.
