A film about homesteaders which has the lazy rhythm of a ballad in telling its tale of the widower (Holden), the bondswoman (Young) he marries but treats as a servant, and the roving cowboy friend (Mitchum) who opens his eyes by seeing - and treating - her as a woman. Although slightly marred by an Indian raid dragged in as an unnecessary catalyst (but very well done), it's a real charmer, held together by Mitchum's electric presence as the laconic interloper with a gently roving eye and a winning way with his guitar and songs.
