Time Out says

After the delightful Buenos Aires Vice Versa, this is a disappointment. It starts well, with Briski's drunkard film critic arguing vehemently with the editors who find his reviews too negative. But as the film goes on to chart his mid-life crisis born of his drinking and his wife's departure for another man, it turns into an indulgent rant, enlivened only by the critic's ludicrous attempts to impersonate his wife's lover in order to discredit the man's sexual past. Strong performances, but the drama ends up going nowhere.
