Time Out says

When a rich American is murdered on a Caribbean isle, the white community pins the blame on local ne'er-do-well Maubee (Townsend). They reckon without the new Chief of Police Xavier Quinn (Washington), crusader for Justice and Truth. The focus is firmly on the black cast: Townsend's deadpan patois, Washington playing the white man in a world gone sour, plus a posse of gutsy, gorgeous black gals. Which leaves a couple of stars with little to do: James 'Ice ay, get ite of hyar' Fox, and Rogers, who eschews acting and merely opens her eyes very wide to express intense sensuality. As if the plot weren't perfunctory enough (bags of Yankee dollars, corruption in high places, CIA asassins), we take extended breaks from it to contemplate Quinn's gradual recovery of his roots, culminating in the grateful islanders serenading him with a reggae version of the title song.
