Inspired by the American Subway Stories and made up of anecdotal tales provided by Time Out readers, this compendium is inevitably a varied and variable affair. Some, like McGregor's and Huda's, are overly whimsical or hip; Iannucci's is very funny, Law's sweet, Hoskins' solid, and McDougal's perhaps the most ambitious. Most are pacy, energetic and fairly shrewd in their use of space; few are very coherent, memorable or demonstrate any particular understanding of the short story form. But as a whole it's surprisingly watchable; if it leaves you just a little dissatisfied, that's because there really isn't a single terrific standout, which this kind of film always needs.
