Treatment Desciption:

The patient will lie comfortably on the massage table as the acupuncturist asks a few questions about the nature of the condition for which they are seeking treatment. During this time, the practitioner will also feel the pulse at the wrists and observe the tongue to form a complete diagnosis. The acupuncture points are then chosen based on this diagnosis, and very fine needles are placed in specific locations - usually along the arms and legs at a depth of about a centimeter or less. The process is generally painless; it is common to feel a heavy sensation or warmth as circulation in the area increases. The needles remain in the body for about 15-20 minutes as the patient relaxes. They are then removed and disposed of. While the treatment may focus on any medical complaint, from pain to insomnia to allergies, stress relief and emotional balance are always notable benefits from nearly even session regardless of the issue being addressed. The total Treatment time is 45-60 minutes.

Acupuncturist bio:

Colby Helton was born and raised in Louisville, KY. He attended Saint Xavier High School where he began his study of Chinese language and culture, which he later continued at Northwestern University. His interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine came during a semester abroad in Beijing, China studying the country's unique healthcare system. The complete integration of modern western medicine and Chinese medicine in China's hospitals serves as a highly effective, low-cost way to treat the country's one billion patients, which fascinated Colby. After graduation from university and working in China, Colby earned his Master's degree Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, CA. His education there included extensive training in classical Chinese medical diagnostics, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and integrative medicine. He has completed an additional 2 years of doctoral instruction and clinical coursework on geriatrics, pediatrics, women's health, orthopedics, neurology, and mental health. Currently Colby works as one of the owners and practitioners at Meridian Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine in Louisville, KY, a family medicine acupuncture clinic where he specializes in acute and chronic pain, sports medicine, infertility, and mental-emotional health.
