On Saturday, April 15, 2017 GonzoFest Louisville will celebrate the legacy of Hunter S. Thompson, creator of Gonzo journalism, at the Main branch of Louisville Free Public Library. The festival will take place both on the exterior grounds of the downtown branch and inside the library.

From an early age Hunter developed a love of literature and writing, which was inspired by his time spent at the LFPL. Thompson's mother, Virginia Thompson, retired from being a librarian at the Main Library. The Main Library is the perfect place to celebrate the legacy of Hunter S. Thompson, Gonzo journalism, and the lasting mark Thompson made.

The Louisville Free Public Library is the largest library system in Kentucky, comprised of 18 branch locations serving more than 3 million visitors per year. From eBooks to author visits, storytimes to streaming music, the library continues to engage the community in new and exciting ways through innovative programs and services.

2017 literary contest entries must be unpublished nonfiction, based on the author’s original reporting, observations or insights, between 1,000 and 3,000 words. All literary entries must be submitted as word files, double-spaced, and as an attachment to an email sent to gonzoliterarycontest@gmail.com by 11:59pm EDT on March, 24, 2017. There is no set theme for the 2017 art contest, but should strive to capture the essence and spirit go Hunter S. Thompson. Art entries must be submitted via mail to 4016 Summer Place, New Albany, IN, 47150. All art entries are due by 11:59pm EDT on March, 24, 2017. GonzoFest Louisville is a festival honoring the legacy of Hunter S. Thompson and the lasting mark he made on literature, journalism, art, and music. Through spoken word, poetry, music, and art GonzoFest Louisville celebrates the life and times of Hunter S. Thompson in his hometown of Louisville, KY. 2017 will mark the seventh year of the festival.
