Our regular column looking at the comings and goings of Manchester’s breweries and pubs.

This week: a trio of movers and shakers are brewing up expansion plans.

One of the big news stories recently was the announcement that Manchester Beer and Cider Festival has found a new home. After two years at the Velodrome, the 2016 CAMRA-organised event will move on to Manchester Central – so no more cyclists zooming around you while you drink, but on the plus side a much shorter walk to the loos. The event is expected to attract more than 13,000 visitors (compared with 11,500 this year) will take place Wednesday January 20-Saturday January 23, and tickets will go on sale in September.

But it’s not just beer festivals that are growing - Prestwich brewery Beer Nouveau have also revealed plans to expand. Currently one of the UK’s smallest commercial breweries, a rise in demand has led to them looking for new premises and a larger kit. It looks like they’ve got some interesting ideas in the pipeline, so watch this space for more…

Sticking with the Prestwich area, beer shop and tap room Barbeerian have also got growth plans on the agenda. They’ve launched a Kickstarter to raise cash to allow them to add more seating and a further four beer taps. With more space, they plan to offer their tap room for parties and events, while local clubs, charities and community groups will be able to host meetings for free in the space. They’re aiming to raise £2,500 by Saturday August 22.
