Celebrate the best of Salford this weekend as the city gears up to host its Big Day Out.

The free event will take place on Saturday September 19 at the Salford Civic Centre lawns and feature activities aimed at residents of all ages.

Food lovers can sample cakes and afternoon tea from Monton’s Vintage Ambiance or explore food stalls selling wood fired pizza, Malaysian street food, Mediterranean BBQ and artisan bake. A Chilli Festival will also be taking place at nearby Swinton Square if you fancy something hotter.

Budding bakers can also enter the Great Salford Cake Off so if you’ve been inspired by the latest series of ‘Great British Bake Off’ - on your marks, get set and bake! See if you can be crowned as Salford’s Star Baker with categories for the best large cake, best cupcakes or traybake and best under 16s entry.

If you want to get crafty, the Bridgewater Canal Team will be on hand to assist with weaving your own wall hanging to reflect the canal’s vibrant colours or make collages, shadow puppets and masks with The Lowry.

Other activities at Salford’s Big Day Out will include a vintage photo booth, children’s treasure hunt, secret garden, information on growing your own fruit and veg, live music and the chance to see the city from above on a 100ft hydraulic platform.

Salford’s Big Day Out, Saturday September 19, Salford Civic Centre lawns, Swinton. Free entry.
