With the redevelopment of the Quays and Chapel Street, Salford has blossomed into Manchester's attractive sister in recent years. That said, it still has its fair share of rainy days. But don't despair! No amount of showers can rain on Salford's parade. From visiting museums to dining in the glamorous MediaCity, you're spoilt for choice for things to do when the heavens open! So grab your brollie and read on to discover how to make the most of a soggy Salford day!

9am - Lupo Caffe Italiano

Lupo Caffee Italiano

There's no better way to start the day than by relaxing over a scrummy breakfast. Lupo's was recently voted the best coffee bar in Manchester 2015 at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards, and prides itself in serving 'proper Italian coffee'. It is also super easy to find, located on the top of Chapel Street close to Salford Central train station. Once you've had your caffeine fix, head down the road to Salford Museum and Art Gallery.

10am - Salford Museum and Art Gallery

Salford Museum and Art Gallery

After you've eaten a delicious breakfast, you'll be suitably prepared to do a spot of time travelling before lunch. Yes, really as at Salford Museum and Art Gallery not only can you take a look at the history of the city, but you can also experience Salford in the Victorian period by strolling down a mocked-up life size street. Sandwiched between the main University of Salford campuses, the museum is also free admission so what's not to love? After you've finished exploring Salford's past, it will be time for a spot of lunch.

1pm - Penelope's Kitchen

Penelope's Kitchen

Just a short bus ride away from Salford Crescent station, this cafe on the edge of MediaCity is popular with nearby TV crews, and it is easy to see why. Penelope's offers tasty warming food but at really good prices. The cafe has a no frills feel about the place - think paper plates rather than china tea sets. Add into the mix a sprinkling of super friendly staff and comfy leather sofas and there you have it. The perfect way to cosy up for lunch when it's bucketing it down outside.

2pm - Imperial War Museum North

Imperial War Museum North

Once you've finished your lunch head over the bridge to The Imperial War Museum North. The museum is a stone's throw away from the set of 'Coronation Street', and is free admission with donations gladly received. As well has the main exhibition space, the IWM North also has several exciting events taking place this winter, which makes it the perfect way to swallow up a couple of hours. If you've got a head for heights, for a small charge you can climb the iconic air shard viewing platform, and see the city from 100ft above.

6pm - The Dockyard

The Dockyard MediaCity

Once you've finished browsing all the exhibitions, head back over the bridge to the Piazza for dinner. Whether you plan to travel as a family or a couple, there are plenty of options for you to dine in style and particularly popular locally is The Dockyard, which serves a selection of burgers and tasty comfort food alongside a wide variety of craft beer.

8pm - The Lowry

The Lowry

Finish the evening with a show at the Lowry. With three performance spaces, there's always plenty on including from dance to drama, comedy to children's shows and everything in between so you're guaranteed a good way to round off a drizzly day.
