Seven of Kraak Gallery’s best events

Kraak Gallery firmly falls into the category of a hidden gem. Tucked away down a back alley of Stevenson Square, it’s gritty, slightly rough around the edges and has played host to a wide range of events and gigs. Sadly, it will be closing its doors after its final event on September 20 - although it still plans to host a few exhibitions - so Time Out Manchester asked the team behind Kraak to pick some of their favourite events at the venue.

MEN

Brooklyn music and performance collective MEN began in 2007 as the production/remix team of electroclash group Le Tigre members JD Samson and Johanna Fateman. They took to the stage at Kraak on Saturday November 6 2010.

In June 1976, the Sex Pistols performed at the Free Trade Hall in one of the most influential gigs of all time. A free event at Kraak on Friday January 10 2014 celebrated the movement with photographer Kevin Cummins presenting his images from the time along with a screening of documentary 'Brass Tacks' and a set by Kill Pretty, featuring ex-members of The Fall and The Hamsters and current members of Blue Orchids.

It was an all-female DJ roster at Kraak on Saturday April 5 when Witch*unt curated a line-up including Madam X, MØRK (Generic Greeting, Femmes Fatales) and Lucy Ironmonger (Meat Free DJs) playing the best old school hip-hop, house and electro.
