The Railway Man

Eric Lomax's autobiography has been adapted as a moving film about post-traumatic stress by Australian director Jonathan Teplitzsky (Burning Man). Lomax (Collin Firth) was captured in Singapore in 1942 and put to work on the notorious Thailand-Burma Railway. Many years after the war he meets and marries Patty (Nicole Kidman) but cannot shake the memory of the Japanese soldier who tortured him (Hiroyuki Sanada). Stellan Skarsgard is odd casting as Lomax's wartime buddy Finlay, and the older/younger versions of the characters don't quite match up, but otherwise this is an effective story of war, peace, forgiveness and revenge.
