In celebration of his newly commissioned public artwork in Museum Park, artist David Brooks will discuss how inquiry, fieldwork and research contributes to his artistic practice.
This talk will be directly followed by a Museum Park site visit with the artist and Fringe Projects Curator Amanda Sanfilippo to view "A Day In the Life of the Coral (as seen near Brewster Reef)," which documents portions of the coral reefs in close proximity to downtown Miami.
A Day In the Life of the Coral (as seen near Brewster Reef)" is on view in Museum Park until January of 2016, and is presented by Fringe Projects, 2015.
"David Brooks (b. 1975 Brazil, Indiana) received his BFA from Cooper Union and an MFA from Columbia University; he is currently teaching at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore. He lives and works in New York City, and has exhibited at The Sculpture Center, NYC (2010); Miami Art Museum (2011); and MoMA/PS1 (2010-12). In 2011-12, Brooks opened Desert Rooftops in Times Square, a 5000 sq. ft. urban earthwork, commissioned by the Art Production Fund.
Amanda Sanfilippo has been the Fringe Projects Curator since 2013. She holds an MA in Contemporary Art History from Sotheby's Institute of Art, London; and has worked at Creative Time and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, NY. She currently works at Locust Projects in Miami, FL, a non-profit exhibition space dedicated to providing contemporary visual artists the freedom to experiment with new ideas.
