University of Minnesota Bookstore says
Nick Licata, five term Seattle City Councilmember, named by The Nation as the Progressive Municipal Official of the year, will discuss his book Becoming a Citizen Activist on Tuesday, September 13 at 4:00 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Bookstore in Coffman Memorial Union, 300 Washington Ave. S.E. Minneapolis.

Becoming a Citizen Activist teaches students and others how to think of themselves as citizen activists to gain control over their future. Every citizen has the power to effect change, but it takes skill, an understanding of power, and a bit of passion to meaningfully participate in a democracy. This is the playbook for citizens wanting to improve the world around them.

Joining Licata is a panel of three Minneapolis City Councilmembers who have a record of working with citizens and students to make our democracy more responsive and accountable. Elizabeth Glidden, Ward 8 Council Vice-President, Cam Gordon, Ward 2, whose district includes the University of Minnesota campus, and Alondra Cano, Ward 9.

The group will listen to suggestions on how Minneapolis and our nation can move forward in making our country a more just and inclusive democracy.
Licata will also sign copies of his book following the discussion.
