Montrealers can't congregate for larges cultural gatherings indoors right now, so the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) is bringing the culture to the streets.

In a new series called 'Summer in the City with the OSM', the city's world-class orchestra is performing small, surprise pop-up performances throughout "several (participating) Montreal boroughs." Taking place in parks with no advance warning for the public, the average Montrealer might find themselves walking by a park and discover a performance by classically-trained musicians.

Exact locations of the events will not be shared, but as the OSM noted in a post on Instagram, visiting their account will reveal where performances "iparks, beside emblematic monuments or in the CHSLDs of Greater Montreal" will take place every week.

So far, performances with small ensembles have taken place in Verdun, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and the Sud-Ouest. The plan has been to hold a total of around 60 performances throughout the summer, each of which lasts from 15 to 20 minutes

As the summer rolls on with music in the streets provided by the OSM, the orchestra continues to post performances online via its Facebook page every Tuesday at 4pm.
