It’s time for biggest snowball fight of the season: What started as a plan for a wintry war between students on Facebook has grown to 500 strong and thousands marking themselves down as ‘interested’ on Facebook. When it comes to local snowball fights, these are Storm Area 51 numbers.

The timing’s perfect, as the Weather Network’s forecast is saying that the day it’s taking place—this Saturday—will be -13° and starting to snow down some fresh powder by noon. With any luck, it’ll be some wet and sticky stuff that will be perfect for munitions.

The ‘hosts’—two French students—plan for two or three teams to meet on the battlefield in a Capture the Flag-style game (“Le but: confrontation de 2 ou 3 équipes pour atteindre les bases adverses”). While most invitations are directed at students, there’s nothing that says post-grads can’t show for a little bit of fun. Lastly, if you’re thinking of going but worried about being pelted too hard, not to worry: There will be medical services on site in case a stray chunk of ice hits you in a sensitive spot.

If you’ve ever tried making an event, you know folks that are ‘interested’ don’t always make it out, but, question: When’s the last time you saw a snowball fight hundreds strong?

The event is set to take place on Saturday, January 18th at Parc Kent (6302 Chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges) at 2pm. If you want to let the organizers know you’re coming, let them know in the event.

To arms! To arms!
