Air Transat strike: flights cancelled, dates and what to know

A strike notice has been officially issued at Air Transat, and flight operations will be disrupted until an agreement is reached.

A strike notice at Air Transat could mean a shutdown of operations.

According to a statement on the Air Transat site updated this morning at 3:45 a.m., the union representing pilots has informed Air Transat of a strike notice on December 7.

The update warned that the strike could be exercised within 72 hours.

When is the Air Transat strike?

According to Air Transat, a strike could formally begin on December 10 and operations will be disrupted as of today until an agreement is reached.

The notice compels Air Transat to implement an action plan that includes the gradual and orderly shutdown of operations over the next three days.

What does this strike notice mean?

If you are currently at a destination, Air Transat states they will do everything we can to help customers return home.

If your return flight is on or before December 12 and you want to travel earlier:

Flight-only: Call the number listed for your destination (on our website or app).

Package: Contact your destination representative (info in the app or your travel documents).

Booked via a travel agency: Contact your agent.

If your return flight is cancelled

Flight-only:

You’ll get a new ticket on the next available flight within 48 hours, or a refund for the unused portion.

If you refuse the alternative offered, you’ll receive a refund.

Booked via an agency? Contact them.

Package:

Same 48-hour rebooking or refund policy.

If your stay is extended, extra expenses will be covered.

Refuse the alternative? You’re entitled to a refund.

Booked via an agency? Contact them.

If your flight is cancelled and you find another airline

Package:

If the new flight is within 48 hours, you’ll be refunded for unused hotel nights and your unused Air Transat flight.

Submit proof of purchase for reimbursement using the form.

Booked via an agency? Contact them.

Flight-only:

The unused portion of your ticket will be refunded.

Submit proof of your new ticket for fare difference reimbursement.

Booked via an agency? Contact them.

If your flight is NOT cancelled but you choose another airline

Package:

No refund for tickets bought with another carrier.

Unused Air Transat portions follow standard terms.

Flight-only:

No refund for tickets bought with another carrier.

Unused portions follow fare rules.

If your departure is upcoming:

Departures on or before December 12 (inclusive)

Check if your reservation is affected

If your flight is within 48 hours, check your flight status before going to the airport.

If your flight is cancelled, you’ll receive an email and an automatic refund to your original payment method.

Cancel a trip

You can cancel using this form and receive a 12-month travel credit.

If you booked through a travel agency, contact them directly.

Change travel dates

First cancel your reservation using the form. A 12-month credit will be added to your file.

Once the credit appears, you can rebook on our website.

Please don’t contact customer service for date changes right now, as teams are prioritizing travellers currently abroad.
