When Saint-Laurent Boulevard normally starts its street fair every summer, it's an exceptionally packed affair for the city with locals vying for space on terrasses and decent spots in line-ups for mango on a stick or paella. This time, however, the pedestrian stretch numbering in at 10 city blocks—you know, Montreal's weird elongated north-south blocks—is all for Montrealers this summer season.
Starting today, la Société de développement du boulevard Saint-Laurent (SDBSL) has announced that it will be moving forward with its annual summer street fair that will last a total of 11 days, from August 13 to August 23. "This street closure aims to encourage local shopping in hopes of revitalizing the economy," the announcement read.
The terrasses of restaurants and bars, street vendors with their own food offerings, retail shops setting up outdoor sales and a lot more are expected to occupy the space that's been getting a lot of newly-painted street murals from the public art organization MU.
In addition to all of the businesses setting up shop just outside their front doors, the business development organization is setting up the stretch with picnic spots and rest areas for visitors. Of course, public health measure such as physical distancing is expected to be respected at all times during visits.
