Even if retail spaces are currently permitted to remain open for the Christmas season, Montrealers won't be able to gather to go shopping at the city's swankiest Christmas market SOUK this year. Instead, the ecelectic gathering of local designers and makers will be selling their wares online from November 17 to December 17, 2020.

While it doesn't call itself a Christmas market proper, SOUK's yearly launches of its editions always happen just before the Christmas shopping season hits, and this year is no different. It's largely a chance for Montrealers to find locally made goods in one place, offering some of the highest-grade goods in town.
"Long renowned as the city’s much-awaited yearly eclectic gathering where connections are made and stories are told, the SOUK is incomparable," the organization says, and they're not wrong. The annual gathering features dozens of locals that range from painters and jewelers to bespoke maple syrup makers and pottery artisans.

SOUK will be launching a new digital platform this year on its website, an online shop that will showcase a selection of products done by a jury, plus exclusive collection. "Much like previous SOUK events, the virtual 17th edition will allow shoppers and design lovers to reach and connect with designers in a brand-new re-imagined mode that puts at the forefront craftsmanship, localness and togetherness," the site says of its new setup.
