A Swingin' Summer

Time Out says

By the '60s, we'd evidently got past the syndrome of 'putting on a show right here'; but promoting one was a different matter. So the rocky road to getting the Righteous Brothers, the Rip Chords, and Gary & the Playboys on stage at Lake Arrowhead is duly traversed in this early dim-witted script from the prosaic pen of Leigh Chapman (Steel, Boardwalk etc.). On the way a certain morbid fascination hinges on the wait for Raquel Welch to shed glasses, head-band and psycho-jargon in order to swing, but you've also got to put up with a chicken-run on water-skis, and the obligatory appearance of the crooked killjoys. Given the director's obsession with bikini bottoms, this really is the arse-end of the beach movie cycle.
