Anam

This sympathetic women's drama is set in blue collar Hamburg. Anam is a middle-aged Turkish cleaner who discovers one morning that her son Deniz is a junkie and her husband is playing away. Solidarity comes in the form of her pals at work, her young daughter and Mandy, Deniz's wasted girlfriend whom Anam nurses through cold turkey. It's a bit awkward at the top and tail, and too tidily routine to allow any real surprises, but writer/director Buket Alakus is fond of his characters, and Nursel Köse's central performance carries conviction.
