Appleseed

Staple post-apocalyptic anime (animation director Yumiko Horasawa), boiled down from Masamune (Ghost in the Shell) Shirow's comic-book series, and set in the brave new city state of Olympus, where semi-human biodroids administer all aspects of public life, to the wrath of a shadowy minority of terrorist dissidents. Plot-heavy, if reasonably gripping and intriguingly ambiguous in the morality stakes, the film lacks character depth and visual expressiveness - and too much information is presented in the dialogue.
