Admirers of the special blend of tight jazzy funk and intelligently political lyrics that is the hallmark of singer/composer/poet Gil Scott-Heron will find much to enjoy in this engaging documentary. A mixture of coolly shot concert footage and scenes of Scott-Heron taking us on an 'alternative' tour of Washington while pronouncing on politics, poetry and prejudice, the film displays both the man's exhilarating musical eclecticism and his sharply ironic, often cynical vision of an America torn apart by fear, loathing and misguided ideals. Highly watchable and listenable material.
