When it looks like his novel is going to be published, cantankerous high school English teacher and once famous novelist Nicholas Cutler thinks his luck has finally changed. But what promises to be the best week of his life professionally spirals into seven days of hell personally. There's his pregnant girlfriend, a student in trouble with the law, a gravely ill brother-in-law and the prospect of losing his lifelong dream. It will all eventually force Cutler to re-examine what exactly is most important in his life.
