A fairly workmanlike movie, but the fascinating subject matter intrigues. Mexican actor and singer Oscar Chavez stars as Pedro J Gonzalez, the first Spanish-speaking radio star to make it in the US. His career ended prematurely in the 1930s when his outspoken comments on the forced deportation of Mexican immigrants were met by a vindictive response from a publicity-seeking DA. Unjustly convicted of the rape of an under-age girl and sentenced to 50 years in San Quentin, his plight mobilised the Mexican-American community in the fight to clear his name.
