A pretty blond (Graham) moves to L.A. to pursue stardom but gets lost in a haze of sex and violence. Meanwhile, the audience is left to determine which plot points and characters are real and which are inventions of the starlet’s fantasy world. Oh, and there’s girl-on-girl action. Sound familiar? Broken is the poor man’s Mulholland Drive—if that poor man were also homeless and on smack. Where David Lynch’s film is endlessly compelling, Alan White’s merely offers hackneyed structure and heavy-handed dialogue. The only thing this audience member wondered is how Graham can look that hot and still completely lack sex appeal.
