David Lynch's daughter Jennifer returns for a fourth turn behind the camera following the dreadful 'Boxing Helena' (1993), the quietly impressive 'Surveillance' (2008) and the deeply strange Bollywood horror flick 'Hisss' (2010). 'Chained' is an unflinching study of a serial killer, played by acting stalwart D'Onofrio, and the nine-year-old boy he enslaves and makes his protegé. Shades of 'Boxing Helena', then, but expect this new film to be far less hysterical and far more gritty in its depiction of a warped, obsessive mind.
