A brave attempt at an idiot's guide to Cuban music, this neatly mounted Super-16 documentary guides us round the track - the likes of Juan De Marcos González and Candido Fabre illustrating the difference between rumba, son, cumbia, campesina, salsa, timba and Cuban jazz (plus an unintentionally hilarious display of 'acid son' from Ali G-lookalike Edesio Alejandro). The gorgeous Havana settings include crumbling colonial buildings, Malecon waterfronts, fleapit bars and antique '50s cars, but the linear narrative style gets rather dry.
