Tousle-haired orphan Curly Sue (Porter) and her down-and-out guardian Bill (Belushi), are carrying out a tried-and-tested scam which involves deliberately colliding with an expensive car to elicit favours from the remorseful driver. As luck would have it, their latest victim is a posh, high-powered lawyer (Lynch). The first collision brings free grub, but a second, unintentional encounter also brings accommodation in her apartment, new wardrobes for both, and - bingo! - romance. From the opening montage of childhood moments through to the contrived resolution, this is utterly formulaic. Hughes' leaden direction and script give no hint of the skill that distinguishes his best work.
