Nomadic tribes battle for power in the kingdom of Darkon, as the imperialistic Mordom clan threatens to take over the realm. Did we mention that these gladiators are really live-action role-playing Starbucks managers, wielding foam weapons in the fields of Maryland? Luke Meyer and Andrew Neel’s doc regards these fantasy-fueled weekend warriors with great amusement and affection, though any deeper psychological insight past “here, I’m no longer a nobody” is AWOL. Still, it’s hard not to sympathize with this misfit community or giggle at the “epic” war-game sequences, filmed like a community-college remake of Lord of the Rings.
