Twenty-something Alice (Otto) has, since childhood, written umpteen letters to her estranged father in an attempt to make contact, all to no avail. Still desperate after all these years, she manages to land a job at a dead letter office, and soon begins to snoop through the 'special cases' drawers and ask pertinent questions of her colleagues, most notably her Chilean boss to whom she takes a bit of a shine. This touching Australian film (from the director of Death in Brunswick) comes with a roster of fine performances, a well-tailored script and an unobtrusive but thoroughly likeable soundtrack. A film about loneliness, pure and simple, and wholly engaging with it.
