Optometrist Steve Finch (Broderick) reigns unchallenged as “the Christmas guy” in his small Massachusetts town until a new neighbor, journeyman car salesman Buddy Hall (DeVito), decides to compensate for his professional failures by putting up enough Christmas lights to make his house visible from outer space. The silly premise might have been sufficient to carry this holiday comedy, but even the plentiful yuletide cheer fails to make up for a tired script. Laden with false climaxes, the overstuffed plot leaves you exhausted well before the movie ends, and the amiable actors sleepwalk through their uninspired roles.
