Promiscuous surgeon Roman (Machalica) is told by his doctor that he can no longer have children, nor sex. He tells his airport-receptionist wife Hanka, who replies that there are more things in a relationship than five minutes of panting in bed once a week. The unspoken things count - but what are they? They cuddle. Soon, however, his curiosity and nascent jealousy aroused by mysterious phone calls, Roman begins to suspect her of having a lover. He takes to spying on her, a process that threatens to destroy his spirit... A complex, unsettling movie (Roman's diagnosis could be AIDS) that digs deep to find the 'irreducible' in people, but offers no simplistic answers (save that of Love, the subject and object of all ten of the Dekalog series).
