Two beautiful mismatched NRI’s (‘Non Resident Indians’) get pissed in Las Vegas, USA on Christmas Eve. They wake up married to each other the following morning. Will staid Rahul (Imran Khan) and racy Riana (Kareena Kapoor) get an annulment or fall predictably in love? Bollywood’s homage to ‘What Happens in Vegas’ manages to be surprising, refreshing and credible. It’s even funny. This is due to a keenly observed script which captures current global urban Indian lives. It’s not perfect: the catchy ditties are frustratingly not subtitled, characters appear obsessed with shock sex talk and it implies the non-virginal heroine and her family are ‘loose’ because they are not Hindu. Still, the leads are charming and the dialogue has a knowing wit. The unconventional finale is a welcome push of the bolly-envelope. Its hip target audience are in for a treat; some ‘Aunty-ji’s’ may be shocked.
