Ever seen a woman chained and in stirrups, slathered in nacho cheese and having a sewer rat scrabble at her privates? No? Well then, what about a burly, tattooed monk whose prayer ritual involves nipple clamps and a car battery? Brazilian schlockmeister José Mojica Marins writes, directs and stars in this grotesque torture-porn soap opera, which splices together a rancid miscellany of sadistic set-pieces to tell the oh-so-loose tale of Coffin Joe and his search for someone to take his demon seed. Stylistically, Marins combines the gothic trappings of Hammer, the realist S&M cruelty of Eli Roth and the kitsch porno exploitation of Spaniard Jesus Franco. It may tickle a type of hardened horror connoisseur, but most will want a shower after seeing it.
