Moore Marriott, grizzled, knobbly-kneed, and looking old enough to be Wilfrid Brambell's great-grandfather, steals the picture from under the very noses of the Crazy Gang - no small feat, considering this is probably the Gang's finest comedy. He plays a venerable PoW who just happens to have the plans of a secret weapon drawn on his back. The plot is set in motion by a flying fish-and-chip stall, no less, and barminess prevails throughout. Ranks with The Goose Steps Out as one of Britain's funniest wartime films.
