College kid inherits dead father's mansion and the parental obsession with black magic. Black arts movies tend to come cheap: a dark cellar, a few candles and a robe. Deep shadow is a blessing here too because the titular trolls are absurd puppets that merely wobble about and snarl a bit. The kid's proficiency in magical mumbling allows Dad to rise from the grave and unleash further low budget mayhem. As the house falls apart, the kid is helped by caretaker and kindly satanist Jack Nance, who duels with Dead Dad via lightning bolts from their eyes. Dad's lightning is pink, Jack's blue, so we can keep up with who's winning. The kid and pals escape and discover the greatest horror: the car's full of ghoulies and there will be a sequel.
