A curiously dated and unconvincing tone of moral outrage envelops this creaking tale of a black policeman (Elliott) who redeems and then falls in love with a young heroin addict (Bey), only to abandon her upon discovering that she lied about having worked as a hooker. Driven back to the toils, she dies and he is left with a 'hangup'. The septuagenarian Hathaway's creative powers were once to be reckoned with, intermittently, but this rudimentary, straggling revenge picture - his last - should have been left on the shelf.
