Time Out says

Toback's long-awaited semi-autobiographical tale of a bright working class Harvard student's involvement in sex, basketball, financial scams, philosophy and acid-induced nightmares is an utterly intriguing indulgence, long on ethical discussion, wish-fulfilment and digitally enhanced drug-fuelled distortion. Fans of Toback (The Gambler, Fingers and Bugsy) are likely to love it while lamenting the casting of the chipmunk-voiced Adams as a philosophy prof (Grenier, too, doesn't really live up to the director's original choice of the young Leo DiCaprio); others may be bemused by the mix of sleaze, serious stuff and suspense strategies. But Toback's a true one-off.
