Hey Bartender: movie review
Time Out says
You’re probably better off heading to an actual watering hole than patronizing Douglas Tirola’s humdrum doc on the art of the cocktail. There are two potentially fascinating subjects here—wounded marine turned rock-star bartender Steve Schneider, of Manhattan’s Employees Only, and salt-of-the-earth Steve Carpentieri, owner of the Connecticut sports pub Dunville’s. But their stories are unfortunately diluted in the poky amalgam of talking heads, glossed-over history about booze culture and the many, many mixed-drink glamour shots that attempt to break up the tedium. It’s unfortunate that a movie about the intoxicating allure of the highest-quality spirits leaves you feeling so stone-cold sober.
