The eponymous district in Montreal's rundown eastern sector is the battleground for this biker movie with an almost anthropological heart. Strong on rituals and gang mores, it follows petty thief Marc as he descends into the hell that is street warfare between the Dark Souls and the Devil's Soldiers. Having to prove his loyalty and courage via several extreme transgressions, he finds himself caught in a conflict just beyond the border gates of conventional urban authority. Violent, authentic and pretty relentless, it more or less delivers on its intentions, which are definitely not for everyone.
