It's Your Fault

Shot in that up-close-and-personal, emphatically dynamic (and frequently digital) ‘realist’ style so fashionable in recent years, this charts one long dark night in the life of a single mother looking after two restlessly energetic sons while her estranged husband is away, even as she struggles to finish some work. Then the younger boy has a fall, and the trio set off for the hospital… Well acted, boasting intriguing shifts in narrative focus, and alert to dilemmas faced by today’s working mothers, the film nevertheless feels a little loaded in its point of view; in the end it doesn’t seem sufficiently interested in anyone but the mother, least of all doctors doing their jobs properly. Fascinating, nonetheless.
