Lindsay Lohan plays a glamorous young career woman who falls flat on her behind in this comedy, which may be enough to briefly amuse her detractors. After kissing a handsome young man, Jake, at a masked ball, Ashley (Lohan) realises that they have swapped luck. As you do. So while Ashley is stepping in puddles and losing her job, formerly clumsy janitor Jake suddenly hits the big time with the band he manages. The fact that said band is real-life British boyband McFly gives this a rather surreal, ‘Spice World’ edge that detracts from the fantasy: this is clearly an attempt to bring the band Stateside success (let’s hope they’re not looking for more acting work). That said, Lohan handles the occasionally amusing physical comedy capably enough, and Chris Pine ticks all the heartthrob boxes as Jake. But a muddled, nonsensical plot makes this a rather plodding affair that feels like a bit of a step back for the ambitious Lohan.
