Benign enough for a first date (or a matinee with your grandmother), this creaky meet-cute-athon about middle-age romantic angst in NYC has all the dimension of that creepy New York New York casino in Las Vegas. Philandering musician Mel (Modine) is torn between a biologist (Gershon) and a newlywed (Cashman), resulting in supposed zaniness before the climactic hookup. By then the only point worth pondering is how, with so much to say about people in love, this unengaging fluffball manages to express nothing. (Opens Fri; AMC Empire 25.)—Mark Holcomb
