One of the first of Carlo Ponti's exile productions, and the sort of international film-making-by-numbers tailor-made for distribution by Lew Grade, this manages to conspicuously waste more than twice the budget of New World's Piranha without approaching anything like the imagination, relevance or sense of fun of its sharp-toothed, small-fry predecessor. The piranha here guard an underwater stash of stolen jewels, and take regular nibbles from the double-crossing crooks. Majors out-machos everyone else, while Hemingway arrives halfway through for - what else? - some location modelling work.
