A very moderate comedy of manners, à la Woody Allen: Fortineau's impecunious bookseller Maurice affects an air of misanthropic mystery but needs de Medeiros' coquettish Aimée to put him at ease with the world. She, however, has determined to marry money, donning slinky red dress and cheesy grin to snare bastard restaurant-critic Malcolm (Bacri). The resolution is not unexpected, but along the way writer/director Tacchella toys with the audience to exasperating, if not terribly interesting effect.
